Recovering from Austin: Lessons from SXSWi

Before I left for Austin, I spent a little time online looking for tips in order to fully reap the benefits of SXSW, gather some insider info, etc. I scoffed at most of the them (drink a lot of water, rest, blah, blah), but in hindsight…I get it: A few days in Austin during SXSW...

Manifest Equality in LA

In case you didn’t spot this post on NOTCOT today, be sure head over there now to get a thorough run down on Manifest Equality. Better yet, check out this incredible multimedia art show in person. It’s going on all this week in Los Angeles in Hollywood on Vine. In addition to the eye candy,...

Album Art of the Year via Creative Review

Unless you’re a vinyl-ite,  you probably don’t get/take the opportunity to really view album art in any size other than a couple inches square on your ipod.  Obviously,  there are artists out there doing gorgeous work regardless. Creative Review has listed their favorites here (see above). What are yours?

Summer Show in the UK

Our friend Matthew across the pond is heading to Leeds this weekend to see dozens of incredible bands and, frankly, I’m jealous. Aside from the big headliners (Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon), the line-up is very impressive. Too many great ones to list…check it out here. Photos above are from last summer’s festival....

A Redhead in Heels

The talented, gorgeous, sweet and incredibly fun Mandy Lauderdale has just released her first album.  She’s been teasing the boys (and girls) for a few years now with her sassy old-meets-new-not-quite-burlesque-one-of-a-kind performances in Los Angeles, NYC and now Austin, Texas.  Check her out or buy her album here. Better yet, go to Austin and see...

Music and Design Collide in Japan

Check out Lipstick Tracez, a lovely blog updated by fashion designer ‘nana’ based in Tokyo. She posted info about the exhibit Art with Sound,  “a cross-disciplinary collaboration between designers and musicians from Japan and Singapore.”  The installation displays 10 LP-sized albums with headphones so the visitor can listen to what inspired the beauty before them. ...

Drawing to Music at ICA in London

Starting this evening, the ICA inaugurates a brand new series, Heavy Pencil. This monthly event features professional illustrators sketching to their favorite music. This month’s artists are the very talented Bob London and Ian Stevenson. Check it out.

You Remix Thom Yorke n Friends

Radiohead recently made the stems of “Reckoner” available on iTunes. Once you’ve completed your masterpiece, upload it at radioheadremix.com. And if you’re not much of a maestro, you can listen to and vote for your favorites. My personal favorite is the Julianna Barwick Mix…so beautiful and ethereal.

Free Undies for the Dutch

At the this month’s Pink Pop festival in The Netherlands, Diesel provided the “One Hour Happy Shower” for concertgoers who needed a little freshening. For one hour, the dirty music lovers were offered hot showers, fresh towels, shower gel and free underwear. The marketing effort was a huge success and Diesel ran out of undies...

Pulsating Tribalism

Is there a fresh, new ‘inward tribalism’ moving our cultures and subcultures en masse? The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London thinks so. They’re hosting an evening of movement, reflection and exploration on June 28th, featuring DJ Steve Bicknell and Brooklyn’s Gang Gang Dance. Click here for the full lineup. Or, better yet, mark...

I’m a sucker for the harpsichord.

My new favorite band Vampire Weekend is playing live on the Central Park SummerStage this weekend. This is unfortunate for those of us who live nowhere near New York City, but we can all enjoy the musical joy anytime via our friendly pal, iTunes.  This group of guys is little bit sixties naivete, a smidge...

A Stunning Music Video from Manchester Orchestra

The boys of The Manchester Orchestra (via Atlanta, GA) teamed up with Clay Lipsky & Jason Bognacki (aka DestroyRockMusic) and the result is this gorgeous video. Be sure to check out Manchester’s site as well…also splendid viewing.
