Ping Pong is Back on the LES

For the next three months, anyone wandering the Lower East Side of New York City can stop by 397 Grand at Suffolk, pick up a paddle and play some good ole fashioned ping pong. The table tennis fiesta will culminate in the L.E.S. Cup, naturally. It’s courtesy of Grand Opening, the design agency known for creating clever pop-up shops/events all over town. But it’s not all about pong. Their wedding chapel make me want to get hitched all over again.

Just got back from a whirlwind two days in Las Vegas for fashion tradeshows Project + ENK. Although ENK feels like a sophisticated and elite cocktail party, Project is like a trendy circus. A plethora of chandeliers, discoballs, photobooths and creative seating dotted the convention center. Above are images from the scene. More here.

Our friend Matthew across the pond is heading to Leeds this weekend to see dozens of incredible bands and, frankly, I’m jealous. Aside from the big headliners (Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon), the line-up is very impressive. Too many great ones to list…check it out here. Interactive, Wearable Art in Denmark

Through December 21st, an experiment in audience-participatory art is live at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark. Social Souvenir has 300 t-shirts on display for purchase. Each shirt includes a quote from one of fifteen renowned artists like Yoko Ono, Erik Satie and Marcel Duchamp. Once you purchase your shirt, you enter your name and location into a database, which adds your info to a Google map. As the shirts disappear from the gallery, the map grows. An interesting experiment in community-building and the use of new media.

Free Undies for the Dutch

At the this month’s Pink Pop festival in The Netherlands, Diesel provided the “One Hour Happy Shower” for concertgoers who needed a little freshening. For one hour, the dirty music lovers were offered hot showers, fresh towels, shower gel and free underwear. The marketing effort was a huge success and Diesel ran out of undies in minutes. Curious to know what the Dutch are banging their heads to? Pink Pop’s line-up included bands like the Foo Fighters, Metallica, Incubus, Rage, Flogging Molly and The Hives, to name just a few.
