I have long admired the work of California-based fine art photographer Roxann Arwen Mills. I know quite a bit about her creative process after being friends for nearly eight years, and never tire of checking out what she’s working on.  Mills manages to give the viewer a close-but-not-too-close glimpse at each of her subjects, especially in this tender portrait called American Families.  Although not her most recent project, the photos are arresting, gorgeous, ethereal, mesmerizing, sometimes disturbing, beautiful and timeless.

Beautiful, disturbing, dreamlike work by Los Angeles-based Illustrator Shannon Keller.

I recently came upon the work of Tobin Yelland, a northern California-born, New York based photographer. His work is rough around the edges in the best way, covering everything from skaters to gang members. He started off early-on shooting for Thrasher as a teenager, and since his work has been exhibited The Luggage Store, Deitch Projects, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Thomas Campbell is a renowned artist, filmmaker, surfer and general craftsman of super cool creations that I personally love.  He is best known as “one of the Beautiful Losers, the bicoastal movement of street-smart artists who take their cues from underground culture — skateboarding, graffiti, hip-hop, you know, low-brow art. The school of art that has nothing to do with any school but the one of real life and counts among its students Barry McGee, Mark Gonzales, Ed Templeton, Chris Johanson, Spike Jonze and Mike Mills.” [via the nyt]

His website displays a thorough cross-section of what he’s created, and this site will link you to his gorgeous and serene film projects. Cleverly designed and just clever in general, “The Official Site of Thomas Campbell’s Creative Dribble” is worth a visit. Beautiful photography, great art direction. Check it out.
